Questions on USPTA league:

League Coordinator:Jim Sciarro netxuspta@gmail.com

League Information: The East Texas USPTA adult league is open for all players ages 18 & above as of the end of 2022. Players do not have to be a member of the USTA or USPTA to participate. Teams consist of a minimum of 6 players eligible to compete at the team’s level of play. Teams may have no more than 1 player rated more than .5 below the teams level of play. ALL teams must have at least (4) players with a valid rating or self rating at the same level as the teams entered division of play. Please note the "MORE than .5 below". An example of this rule would be that a 3.5 team cannot have MORE than 1 player rated 2.5 or below. A 3.5 team could have several 3.0 players since 3.0 is not MORE than .5 below the 3.5 teams level of play. Players should play by their most recent published USTA rating. Any player who was DQ'd at any time after December 2021 ratings were published must play at that higher rating. If a player appealed his/her rating he/she must play by the appealed decision. If a player already has a self rating from earlier leagues and no published rating then that self rating must be used. Players with no rating may join any team he/she feels he/she is eligible for. Self rated players (following USTA NTRP guidelines) are subject to review and disqualification at any time by local USPTA pros committee. Ratings entered by players on their EastTexasTennis.topdoglive.com account are not always current since they are entered by the player at the time he/she creates their account.

Team Registration: EastTexasTennis.topdoglive.com will be used for all USPTA team registrations. All players should login to EastTexasTennis.topdoglive.com and create a free account. When you fill out your free account information PLEASE be sure and fill out all information requested so we can contact you with schedule changes and league updates. All players must pay the $20 player fee during registration with a credit or debit card. When you register please be sure and write down your user ID and password. Duplicate accounts can cause problems with team scores so please don’t create two accounts. If you have forgotten your password please click the "email me my password" button so you do not end up with two accounts and not get credit for your matches played. After you register you should see your name on the team roster within a few hours.

To Captain a Team: If you will be captaining a team go to EastTexasTennis.topdoglive.com and once you create your account if you don't already have one click on “Create New Team” and follow the steps. If your home court facility is not found please email Jim at tennishollytree@gmail.com and we will add your facility before you can complete the team registration process. Most East Texas area clubs and schools should already be in the database. Always try various spellings and words such as THE Cascades and not just Cascades to find your home courts. Once you have created your team follow the steps below to “join” the team. Forming your team and selecting yourself as a captain does not register you to “play” on that team but only to captain it. If you’re going to be a player you will need to “join the team” after creating the team. If you are only captaining the team and not playing on the team you do not need to "join" the team after registering to be the captain.

To Join a Team: Go to EastTexasTennis.topdoglive.com and create a free account if you don't already have one. Click "email me my password" if you have an account but forgot your login information. Please do not create another account or your scores and matches will not be recorded properly. Please be sure and fill out all requested information so you can be contacted with league updates, schedules, scores, etc. Once you have created an account click on the red “Sign Up” button next to the division you would like to enter and select your captain’s name. Once you pay the $20 league fee you will be listed on the roster! There are no additional fees for the online registration. Follow these same steps if you would like to join another team at a different level of play. Refunds cannot be given for any reason but we will have the ability to move players from one team to another at no additional charge if necessary prior to the September 10 player add deadline and as long as they have not played a match.

League Details:

League format will be two lines of doubles play each week –

Line #1 worth 5 points and Line #2 worth 3 points for the win (captains must not only enter scores weekly but must also enter the points won).

Match starting times will be scheduled between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m

Facilities allowing several teams to play on a given night could have 8:30 match starting times which will follow the 6pm or 7pm matches.

Anyone with permission to reserve two lighted outdoor hard courts for the length of the season may form his/her own team. Facilities are not required to provide “warm up courts” prior to the match start time. Please check with your home facility for any policies they might have on requirements for forming teams.

The length of each league season will be based on the number of teams entered / some levels may be divided into two flights and some may have a playoff

Teams may have a few matches scheduled on days other than “normal” day of play - this is due to scheduling and court conflicts not a team’s choice

Winning teams will advance to the USTPA Texas State Team INDOOR Championships in Houston January 2023

Players must play at least two regular season local league matches (and at least one playoff match if applicable) to advance to state championships. If a team is scheduled to play 9 or more matches then a player must play in at least (3) regular season matches + a playoff match if applicable in order to advance to the state championships. Defaults do not count as a match played. Please don’t wait until the end of the season if you're concerned about getting in your two matches.

. All matches will be 2 out of 3 tie-break sets with a 10-point super tiebreak for split set matches

Home team is responsible for providing new balls for each home match and home captain should enter the match results within 24 hours following the match.

For larger schedules mandatory rain make up dates will be listed on the website. Please try to make up your rain outs as soon as possible. Teams are not permitted to reschedule matches for any reason other than wet courts unless both teams agree to AND play the match PRIOR to the scheduled date. For no reason other than weather related issues should a match be postponed to be played at a later date unless rescheduled by or with the league coordinator.

Teams will receive 5 points for winning line #1 and 3 for line #2. If one line must be defaulted the defaulting team must default line #1.

It is out of courtesy that the defaulting team notify the opponents about the default but it is not mandatory.

Players are permitted to play on as many teams as desired but only one team per level. Playing on two teams is not a reason to call your opponent and try to reschedule a team match even if both matches happen to be scheduled for the same time. If a team defaults both lines in a given match the team will receive a -6 for their score. All teams (Including 4.5 levels) must have at least (4) players rated at the team’s level of play to compete at a higher level than the majority of players listed on the roster. Teams may only have (1) player rated more than .5 below the teams level of play.

The local grievance committee will consist of (3) local USPTA pros. Please send emails to league coordinator at netxuspta@gmail.com within 24 hours of the issue.

All captains must have a minimum of 6 players registered by Tuesday, August 16. The league coordinator will have the ability to move players to other teams by request but no refunds will be given once a player has registered and paid online. Teams may continue to add players until September 10, 2022.

League Play Begins:

NOT BEFORE THE WEEK OF AUGUST 29:

Monday 4.0 M&W, Tuesday 3.5 M&W, Wednesdays 4.5 M&W, Thursdays 3.0 M&W

Depending on number of teams at each club teams may be scheduled on days other than those above

2022 TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES

1. Ten women’s teams and ten men’s teams will make up the 2022 Texas State Team Championships. The women will compete in two round robins of (5) teams each and the men will compete in two round robins of (5) teams each.

2. All flight winners will be determined based on total GAMES won. The (2) flight winners for the Women and the (2) flight winners for the Men will compete in the Finals on Sunday at Chancellors.

3. Each team will field a minimum of 4 players at each level of play (3.0 - 4.5). Due to Covid and ratings not being published in 2021, we will go by the January 2020 published ratings, unless a player’s rating has changed for any reason since prior to the December 2021 published ratings. Players with a self-rating in a prior league should play by that self-rating if they are not in the computer. Players found to have played out of level will have each match score reported as -6 games. The opposing team will have scores reported as +12 games. If the opposing team has won more than 12 games, they will keep the additional games. Players DQ’d or moved up in 2020/2021 prior to the release of the 2021-year end ratings must play by their higher rating.

4. Each team match will consist of eight (8) individual doubles matches, two matches at each NTRP level 3.0-4.5. Players may play twice in the same team match (at different levels if needed) as long as the matches are scheduled at different times and play is not held up.

5. The team captain is responsible for turning in the lineup for each match at least 15 minutes prior to the starting time. Please make sure you are at your playing site at least 15 minutes prior to match time. The point penalty system will go into effect at the time the match is scheduled to begin.

6. Each doubles match will consist of a 16-game set. Score could be 8-8, 9-7, 10-6, 11-5, etc. Default will count as a 10 (-4) score if no valid games are played. If no valid games are played the defaulting team receives –4 games. In case of a default after game(s) are completed, games won will count for both teams with the winning team being awarded the remainder of the 16 total games. Players playing who are not on the official roster will result in a default (0-10) and loss of 4 games. No-Ad scoring will be used in all matches. The winners should turn in the balls and report scores to the tournament desk.

7. Warm-ups will be limited to 5 minutes. Because play is indoors and we are limited on court time, we must keep the tournament on schedule. The warmup is considered part of the match, any changes in players, must be done prior to the start of the warmup. Please remember these clubs are allowing us to use their facility for a given time and are not obligated to give us any additional courts for practice. Players using indoor or outdoor courts to warm up on must register and pay court fees with the front desk. Black or marking soles will not be allowed to be worn at any of the clubs – players will be asked to leave the court if shoes mark or scuff the courts.

8. Teams will change sides of the court after the first 8 games. No change on odd games. This will allow each person to serve twice from each side. The 16-game set is considered one set, so no change of service return sides will be allowed. Players may take a water break at the conclusion of the 4th, 8th, and 12th games only. Players are not permitted to change sides for service returns during the 16 games. Receiving team elects which player will return on no add points. No substitutes once a doubles match has begun. Only players on the official roster as of January 20, 2022, at 1:00 PM may participate. ONLINE registration ends January 7 - players substituted after this date must be done by text to Jim at 903.245.0482 AND email no later that the January 20th 1pm deadline to substitue. Refunds will not be given for registered players who withdraw from the team but substitutions are allowed within the time deadlines.

9. USTA rules of play will be observed other than the rules listed above. The tournament committee will interpret all rules.

10. Please remember that we are being hosted by private clubs. Please be aware of and observe each club’s house rules and regulations. (Food, Beverages, Locker Room Usage, Attire etc.) Allow extra time for finding a club you have never been to and please be sure to ask about the club’s parking policy upon entering the facility. FOOD & DRINKS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE ANY OF THE PRIVATE CLUBS. This has been a big problem in prior years – please do not bring your meals to these clubs! Most clubs will be offering cash sales for meals. Alcohol is not permitted to be brought in to any of the facilities – teams bringing their own alcohol into the buildings will be asked to leave.

11. A few teams travel from one site to another in one day. Please make sure your players know their schedules and have maps and phone numbers with them. We will enforce the point penalty system as follows: Call the club if you’re lost! ? 5 MINUTES LATE START AT 0-2 & "NO WARM UP" ? 10 MINUTES LATE START AT 0-4 & "NO WARM UP" ? 15 MINUTES LATE START AT 0-6 & "NO WARM UP" ? 16 MINUTES LATE DEFAULT WITH 0-10 SCORE

12. The online deadline to add players to your roster is January 7, 2022. The deadline to substitute players (at any level) is January 20, 2022, at 1:00 PM. All players playing in Sunday’s final must have completed at least one match in round robin play Please make sure your teams have enough players to make it through your scheduled matches. You are representing EAST TEXAS and all the other levels are counting on your level. Cities defaulting matches or not fielding a full team could forfeit their spot for the 2023 tournament. Any team defaulting (or being defaulted) an entire line of doubles without playing a game will have 4 games deducted from their teams’ total match score for that round. This rule applies to the finals as well as round robin matches.
